Confederation: Energy supply is secured
The Federal Government under Chancellor Merkel sees no urgent need for action in view of the increased energy prices. National measures are a matter for the new government, said government spokesman Seibert. The supply of Germany is assured – but one is observing the situation “very closely”.
The incumbent federal government currently sees no need for a decision to take steps to ease the burden given the rising gas and energy prices. A new government would have to examine any national measures, said government spokesman Steffen Seibert. However, the issue has been discussed in the Federal Cabinet and the situation is being monitored very closely. In any case, the supply of Germany was secured, he added.
A spokeswoman for the Ministry of Economic Affairs said the gas storage tank had a filling level of 70.7 percent, the government spokesman for the EU of 77 percent. The spokeswoman pointed out that there are various reasons for the rise in gas prices around the world. This includes, for example, the growing global economy with very strong gas demand after the corona pandemic.
When asked by Annalena Baerbock, Greens co-boss, not to give the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline an operating permit, the spokeswoman pointed out that the Federal Network Agency would make a decision within four months. There is a four-month period that has run since September 8th, when the network agency determined that the documents submitted were complete. There are already requests to the Russian company Gazprom to answer questions about the separation of network and operation required by the EU.
