A few months after the death of Gaspard Ulliel, Pierre Niney paid tribute to him during his appearance in En aparté, Tuesday February 22 on Canal +.
They have embodied two Yves Saint Laurent in the cinema. The first, Pierre Niney, who played the role of the couturier in a film retracing his life by Jalil Lespert, the other, Gaspard Ulliel, played him during the revival of his fashion house in the 1970s, under the eye of Bertrand Bonello. Two dazzling interpretations which marked the spirits, but which did not, at any time, give rise to any rivalry between the two actors. So much so that, on January 19, Pierre Niney was devastated to learn of the death of Gaspard Ulliel in a skiing accident, during a stay in Savoie.
Present at the funeral of the actor, Pierre Niney was then approached to replace him in the series Tikkun, before the role was finally given to Niels Schneider. And as he confides in As an asideTuesday, February 22, competition has never existed between him and Gaspard Ulliel, with whom he exchanged a lot during their respective shoots in the skin of Yves Saint Laurent. “It was strange because, when I finished mine, he finished his, there was a production that was engaged, all the same a little war of cinema”admits the actor who adds that at that time, the media also wanted to put the two projects in competition. “And Gaspard, in the middle of that, was always really elegant and benevolent, totally kind, and then he was someone with a very big heartand it really feels weird to talk about him in the past tense“he specified.
