Gastronomy and culture – Corona step-by-step plan meets skepticism and worries

Salzburg is not generally averse to the expansion of the “step-by-step plan” presented by the government (the “Krone” reported). However, a certain skepticism can be heard from the industries concerned. Ernst Pühringer, restaurateur and Salzburg’s landlord spokesman, says: “It’s good that there is a perspective for autumn. We now at least know what should apply when. ”After all, there are now very clear guidelines as to what will happen at what value and that is good for planning.

Personnel worries at the Salzburg restaurateurs

In any case, there has not yet been an outcry from his colleagues, said Pühringer. “I think that most people are very relaxed about it – the 2.5 G rule is easy to imagine,” says the landlord’s spokesman. But he sees a problem with the staff, because they are already difficult to find. “If there is a compulsory vaccination for the staff in the higher levels, it could be that our employees break away,” says the restaurateur with concern.

Politicians defend stricter rules for the unvaccinated
“The measures, especially for the unvaccinated, are tough, but necessary. It is now a pandemic for the unvaccinated, ”says Deputy Governor Christian Stöckl (ÖVP) about the expanded step-by-step plan. He justifies the government’s strategy: “We all no longer want a lockdown, we can no longer afford one.”

The Salzburg SPÖ doubts that the phased plan will increase the vaccination quota and therefore calls for a nationwide vaccination lottery.

Interview: Wolfgang Descho

Wolfgang Descho has been managing director of Rockhouse Salzburg for many years and explains what the step-by-step plan means for the cultural sites and why he is skeptical of a 2-G rule.

What do the plans mean for the Rockhouse?

We are now waiting until we really have everything in black and white. The 2.5 G rule would still be fine. But I take a critical view of everything that goes beyond that.

Because we are already adhering to the regulations meticulously and also control them very carefully – the guests feel safe. In addition, around 75 percent of our visitors are vaccinated anyway.

Then why would 2-G be a problem for you at all if it doesn’t affect many guests anyway?

Well, we are not yet where we were before Corona in terms of visitor level. Besides, I don’t think it’s good to exclude unvaccinated people from social and cultural life.
