“Nothing can be compared to the Shoah”: the national secretary of the PCF, Fabien Roussel, “regretted” Monday evening his recent comparison which had “no place to be” between the situation in Gaza and the Warsaw ghetto .

“This Sunday (on Europe 1 and CNews), I spoke at length about the situation in Israel-Palestine a few days after going there. I expressed my emotion, my anger. We do not return unscathed from such a journey,” he wrote in a statement.
“On this occasion, I made a comparison between the siege of Gaza and the Warsaw ghetto. My words aroused criticism and incomprehension. They hurt, because indeed nothing could be compared to the Shoah, otherwise it would be relativized. “I regret this comparison. It has no place,” the communist leader stressed. “The fact remains that an unspeakable tragedy is unfolding before our eyes. And it will soon be too late to act,” he emphasizes.
“We are heading towards genocide. It is underway,” Fabien Roussel denounced Sunday. Benjamin Netanyahu’s government is “wiping out the Palestinian people in Gaza”, he said. “When we look in recent history at sieges where populations were besieged, bombed and exterminated, it’s Sarajevo, it’s the Warsaw ghetto,” he compared.
The president of the Representative Council of Jewish Institutions of France (Crif) Yonathan Arfi reacted strongly. “Comparing Gaza to the Warsaw ghetto is not just a historical error. It is a moral fault. For the Jews, the ghetto was a stage in the genocidal process put in place by the Nazis which led them massively to the point of “extermination. As tragic as this war is for the civilian populations, there is no Palestinian genocide, and fortunately,” he wrote on X.
