GB-Four new candidates claim to be Johnson’s successor


LONDON, July 9 (Reuters) – Four new candidates declared themselves on Saturday to succeed Boris Johnson as Britain’s prime minister.

Boris Johnson announced his resignation on Thursday while specifying that he would remain Prime Minister until the appointment of the new leader of the Conservative Party, guaranteed to succeed him at 10 Downing Street.

Transport Minister Grant Shapps, the new British Finance Minister, Nadhim Zahawi, and the two former ministers Jeremy Hunt and Sajid Javid announced their candidacy for the head of the Conservative Party on Saturday.

Eight personalities have now applied for the succession of Boris Johnson.

British weekly The Mail on Sunday announced that Liz Truss, the Foreign Secretary, is due to launch her campaign on Monday.

British Defense Minister Ben Wallace, given as one of the favorites to succeed Prime Minister Boris Johnson, for his part announced that he had decided not to run for the presidency of the Conservative Party.
