GBB92MCBAP: LG unveils a very energy-efficient refrigerator

The South Korean manufacturer LG is abandoning its Instaview refrigerators for a while to focus on energy savings, with some brilliance it seems. The GBB92MCBAP handset boasts of having won an A on its energy label.

Remember, that was just 18 months ago. The new energy label landed on the shelves with the promise of being more readable for the consumer. The idea was to get rid of the A+++ grades mixed with a negative percentage which until then had characterized the least energy-intensive devices. The various authorities swore at the time to set up criteria so demanding that the maximum score could not be reached for many years. A promise that Samsung had simply trampled on by announcing, even before the effective implementation of the new display, refrigerators with an A rating. And today it is the turn of its nemesis, LG not to name it, d announce a handset also rated A, the GBB92MCBAP.

This refrigerator is therefore in the form of a black monolith more than 2 m high and 60 cm wide with the refrigerator at the top and the freezer at the bottom. It is of course a No Frost cooling system that was chosen by the manufacturer. This technology prevents the formation of frost in the freezer (107 l here), because this insulating layer requires more effort from the cold circuit to maintain a stable temperature in the compartment. And who says more effort, also says increased power consumption and premature aging of the various components.

The other side of the coin, in the positive cold zone (277 l), this air completely devoid of humidity tends to dry out food. That’s why slices of ham that aren’t kept in a box get shrunken. To avoid seeing fruits and vegetables suffer this sad fate, the GBB92MCBAP is equipped with a vegetable drawer, which is nothing very new. But just under the latter is a space devoted to the conservation of fresh products. In this drawer, the temperature is maintained just a little above 0°C in order to keep at the lowest possible temperature, but without freezing (so as not to alter the nutritional and taste properties) fragile foods such as fish or meat.

The GBB92MCBAP’s control panel is behind the door, which isn’t necessarily a great idea. Indeed, this architecture promotes the entry of hot air into the refrigerator when it is necessary to make some adjustments (rise or rise in temperature, adjustment of vacation mode, etc.). It should be noted that LG remedies this problem thanks to Door Cooling+ technology: a curtain of cold air, just behind the door, has the mission of distributing the freshness quickly in the enclosure after opening, in particular.

The GBB92MCBAP is already available at the still high price of 1799 €.
