GC is disheveled by FC Luzern

In the home game against Lucerne, GC does not build on the performance of the most recent derby win. Meanwhile, the Central Swiss move up to third place – but how will their club owner Bernhard Alpstaeg behave on Thursday? Is there a big quake?

FC Luzern in a frenzy: Dejan Sorgic is put in a headlock by team-mate Marco Burch after his decisive goal to make it 3-1.

The GC coach Giorgio Contini held on shortly after his team’s poor performance. “There will be clear words tomorrow, you can’t let yourself be celebrated as a derby winner for a week and then go onto the pitch without energy against Lucerne,” said Contini. He summed up the performance of the Grasshoppers and got to the point.

GC goalie Hammel had a lot to do

Actually, the first half offered the 5100 spectators good entertainment. The defenders and their mistakes were primarily responsible for this on both sides. The Grasshoppers in particular excelled in this regard. After a header, Margreitter let himself be duped by a simple movement from Sorgic, the Lucerne striker scored for the early lead.

The second GC central defender, Seko, did not do much better than Margreitter when he let Luzerns Burch concede a header after a free-kick cross. And the GC connection hit shortly before the break was preceded by a gross blunder by Burch, who had given the ball to Kawabe on the baseline.

However, FC Luzern was the much better team in the first half. Especially the midfield with Jashari and Beloko was superior to Kawabe, Herc and Ndenge. Coach Mario Frick’s team also showed clearer actions in attack. The GC goalie Hammel had a lot to do and was instrumental in GC avoiding a major defeat until the very end.

But when Sorgic scored the second, Hammel was powerless as well. When Jashari took a free kick, Bolla let Lucerne’s center forward out of sight, and he scored with a direct acceptance that was well worth seeing in the final result. Even after the substitutions, GC had no energy or playful means to resist or even bring about the turnaround.

FC Luzern is facing decisive days – coach Frick is relaxed

The mood of Lucerne coach Mario Frick was positive. After beating Lugano, his team has now also impressed in Zurich. Above all, however, Frick was satisfied with the fact that his team was not distracted by the confusion in the club’s leadership. “We’re going into the coming week with good courage,” said Frick.

On Thursday, club owner Bernhard Alpstaeg wants to have the leadership replaced by sports director Remo Meyer and president Stefan Wolf at the general assembly. The motives of the very rich entrepreneur are opaque. In any case, the performance of the team cannot be the reason.
