GE HealthCare: collaboration agreement with Novo Nordisk

(CercleFinance.com) – The American GE HealthCare announced Thursday evening the signing of a collaboration agreement with the Danish laboratory Novo Nordisk with a view to developing an ultrasound treatment for diabetes.

The Chicago group says it has discovered a technology called ‘peripheral focused ultrasound stimulation’ (PFUS) that could regulate the body’s metabolic function and treat chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes or obesity.

This non-invasive approach – which uses ultrasound to activate the nervous system to stimulate a therapeutic response – has shown encouraging results in preclinical trials, he assures.

GE HealthCare adds that preliminary clinical research suggests it may impact glucose metabolism in diabetics through personalized ultrasound stimulation of nerve pathways.

If validated in further clinical trials, PFUS technology could provide a non-pharmacological approach to normalizing blood glucose levels in people with diabetes, the company says.
