Gears of War: Netflix tackles the famous franchise with two new adaptations

Video games are on the rise for streaming platforms! After Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, The Witcher, or The Last of Us, coming very soon, it’s the turn of Gears of War to be entitled to several audiovisual adaptations.

It is a collaboration between The Coalition — Canadian studio behind the game — and netflix – streaming giant that we no longer present – which will give birth to an action film but also an animated series, aimed at an older audience, and more so affinities.

A fresh project

The collaboration is only in its infancy. There is currently no studio or producer attached to the project. The game’s developer, The Coalition, remains on the lookout to produce the best adaptation possible, after several unsuccessful attempts. It would be the result of many months of negotiations in a very competitive audiovisual streaming environment, and would arrive exactly 16 years after the release of the first Gears of War, on November 7, 2006.

Netflix would have great ambitions for this license and aims for the same success as for its recent adaptations, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and The Witcher in particular. Note that additional projects could see the light of day if the fans are won over.

A historic license

With nearly 40 million copies sold through 6 different games not counting the spin-offs, Gears of War is considered one of the richest and most respected sagas in the world of video games, with a passionate community of fans.

The game universe is set on the brink of societal decline after monstrous and destructive threats emerge, the locusts, and so drive humanity to the brink of extinction. Delta Squad, a hard-hit team led by Sergeant Fenix, is tasked with restoring peace and embodying the survival of the human race.

Fans are excited on the networks at the announcement of this collaboration, and predictions are launched to guess who will play the nag Marcus Fenix. The current favorite appears to be the actor and ex-wrestling star Dave Bautista.
