“Gears of War” is finally being made into a film. A live-action adaptation of the video game has been in planning since 2007 and has never been implemented. Now Netflix is taking on them.

Marcus Fenix will soon join the battle with his Delta Squad for Netflix. The streaming giant is planning a live-action adult film and animated series based on the hit Xbox video game series Gears of War. An ambitious project where many have failed.
Hollywood has been trying to adapt the 2006 game for a film adaptation since 2007. The rights were initially held by the Warner Bros. subsidiary New Line Cinema, which after writing a preliminary script with their production stood on the spot and even years later made no progress.
Now there were new negotiations for the film rights (reported by “The Hollywood Reporter”). The procedure dragged on for months. Until Netflix agreed to team up with The Coalition, the Canadian game developer behind Gears of War. A filmmaker or producer is not yet involved in the project.
At the beginning of the year there were already rumors about a possible comeback of the “Gears of War” film. In an interview with the American fitness magazine Men’s Journal, actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson announced that he was working on a film adaptation of a popular video game series.
I can’t tell you exactly what game we’re making, but this year there will be an announcement. We’re about to bring one of the biggest, baddest games to the screen – one I’ve been playing for years. I’m really looking forward to bringing it to fans around the world.

As early as January 2022, it was assumed that The Rock was talking about “Gears of War”, because in 2009 he was already being discussed for the leading role of Marcus Fenix. At that time, the author of the “Fast & Furious” series Chris Morgan was supposed to write the screenplay for the “Gears of War” film.
How far the production of the film is currently and whether Johnson will be involved in it is not known. Netflix only announced that they will be working on a live-action film first, which will be followed by an adult animated series. Then it is weighed whether further stories are to be implemented.
The Gears of War video game series tells the story of disgraced former Gear Sergeant Marcus Fenix. With his Delta Squad he fights against the alien threat of the Locust on the planet Sera.
Since the Gears of War movie was only just announced, we don’t expect it to be released before 2024. Dwayne Johnson can currently be seen in the cinema as the superhero “Black Adam”.
