Geena Davis was honored at the Big Screen Achievement Awards. She caused a lot of flashbulbs on the red carpet.

Geena Davis (68) returns with a timelessly elegant appearance on the red carpet. The Oscar winner attended the Big Screen Achievement Awards in a black floor-length dress that perfectly showcased her tiny waist. A particularly eye-catching feature of her gown were the wide straps decorated with sparkling flowers. She paired it with delicate silver jewelry.

Davis was delighted to receive a special prize that evening. The actress was awarded the Viola Davis Trailblazer Award for her commitment. After the namesake, actress Viola Davis (58), in 2022, the Oscar winner is the second winner of the award.

“Geena Davis exemplifies the true essence of a trailblazer in Hollywood, not only through her remarkable film career, but also for her tireless advocacy for underrepresented groups in film and other forms of media,” said CinemaCon Executive Director Mitch Neuhauser, explaining the decision the official website.

Breakthrough in the 1990s

Geena Davis is probably best known for her leading role in the 1991 cult film “Thelma & Louise.” However, she already won her Oscar a year earlier for the drama “The Travels of Mr. Leary.” More successful films followed until she had the biggest flop in film history to date with “The Pirate Bride” in 1995. After that, her career largely shifted to TV. The American received a Golden Globe and an Emmy nomination for her role as President Mackenzie Allen in the series “Welcome, Mrs. President”. She was also seen in some episodes of the hit series “Grey’s Anatomy”.

Davis is a tireless advocate for women’s rights in Hollywood. In 2007 she founded the “Geena Davis Institute on Gender in the Media” and has been fighting for equal rights for women in the film industry ever since.

The 68-year-old was married four times, her last marriage to Reza Jarrahy (53) ended in divorce in 2021. With him she has a daughter, who was born in 2002, and twin sons born in 2004.

Star-studded event

In addition to Davis, nine other actors and filmmakers were honored at the Big Screen Achievement Awards ceremony at CinemaCon. The “Black Panther” actress Lupita Nyong’o (41) took home the award in the “Star of the Year” category. She arrived at the event in a backless gold dress. Amy Poehler (52), Ariana Greenblatt (16) and Dan Stevens (41) also received an award.
