Be careful what you share Gemini : Google may retain your data for a period of up to three years.
The Bard conversational agent has become Gemini, and is now based on a more efficient language model. Google aims to step into the footsteps of ChatGPT with this new tool, which aims to integrate Google services and have its own mobile application.
Data kept for up to 3 years
As with all platforms of this type, it is important not to share sensitive data with Gemini, which may retain it for a period of three years. Google has published a support page explaining its policy regarding the collection, storage and use of our personal information.
The American firm announces that it collects your conversations with Gemini, as well as information relating to the use of the product and your location. “Google uses this data […] to provide, improve and develop Google products and services as well as machine learning technologies, including Google enterprise products such as Google Cloud »we learn.
It is specified that the processing of information is not necessarily carried out by robots, but that “Human reviewers read and annotate your conversations with Gemini”. Google recommends “do not include confidential information in your conversations or any data that you would not want an evaluator to see”.
Disable Activity in Gemini
Good news, Google still gives us a little control over the collection of our data. This is enabled by default, but it is possible to get rid of it by following the procedure below.
- Go to gemini.google.com
- Click the Activity button, located at the bottom left of the screen, between Help and Settings
- Click Disable
- Choose between Disable or Disable and delete activity
On this same interface, it is also possible to select an automatic deletion option or to manually delete certain content. If you opt to completely disable activity in Gemini apps, keep in mind that conversations are recorded for up to 72 hours, but activity does not appear in the history.
