On the occasion of the broadcast of the action film Gemini Man on Sunday April 3, 2022, from 9:05 p.m. on France 2, Télé Star explains to you how the production managed to rejuvenate Will Smith on the screen.
Released in cinemas in 2019, the action movie titled Gemini Manworn by Will Smith in the main role, will be broadcast for the first time in clear on French television on Sunday April 3, 2022. Directed by Ang Leethis feature film features the character of Henry Brogan, played on screen by Will Smith. This former soldier is a contract killer, with a solid reputation as a sniper, working for an American government intelligence agency, the DIA. After a contract in Liège in Belgium, he decided to retire in the State of Georgia. He also discovers that the target of this last contract was not the one he thought.
Henry’s employers want him to disappear. Clay Varris, the director of Gemini performed by Clive Owen, then sends on his heels the only man capable of killing Henry: his clone. 30 years younger, he was raised by Clay himself. It is also Will Smith who lends his features to the 23-year-old version of his character. The younger of the two Will Smiths was entirely designed in digital version. A realization so complex that the two characters can fight hand-to-hand in perfect homogeneity on the screen, giving rise to a striking double performance. “The actor is seen looking at himself 30 years younger, which is an incredible experience for the viewer“, marveled producer Jerry Bruckheimer.
Will Smith: “The first time I saw myself was scary”
“It is not about regeneration, nor about substitution of image. Junior is entirely digitally created and 100% driven by performance capture“, explained Bill Westenhofer, the visual effects supervisor of Gemini Man. Every one of his tears, every one of his punches, absolutely everything we see, is pure Will Smith. “The first time I saw myself was creepy. It was me. I had before my eyes a perfect version of me at 23, as if someone had erased all my flaws. It is, cinematographically speaking, stunning. This will influence the way of making and watching films from now on“, said Will Smith during the promotion of this feature film.
