The Belgian federal police arrested the British scammer suspected of having overthrown two gendarmes in the Creuse on August 25. The individual is known to have impersonated an MI5 spy in order to extort large amounts of money.
Robert Hendy-Freegard, this British crook suspected of having overthrown two gendarmes in Vidaillat, in the Creuse, on August 25, during a refusal to comply, was arrested in Belgium. The 51-year-old had been on the run since last Thursday.
Judicial information had been opened against X for “attempted homicide“. The man was arrested by the federal highway police of West Flanders in a vehicle. He must appear on Saturday before an investigating judge seized by the Hal-Vilvoorde prosecutor’s office to execute the European arrest warrant issued against him, announced the spokesperson for the Belgian federal police.
Robert Hendy-Freegard, 51, was arrested by an East Flanders Highway Police patrol who “was able to locate his car based on license plate recognition cameras“, explained the spokesperson.

During a check in a dog breeding run by Robert Hendy-Freegard and his wife at their home in Vidaillat, two soldiers were hit by the 51-year-old Briton. While the gendarmes asked one of the spouses to move to the nearest brigade, Freegard started his vehicle, an Audi A3, then overturned the soldiers before fleeing.

In 2005, he was sentenced by British justice to life imprisonment for kidnapping, deception, theft from students and women, from whom he had extracted a total of more than a million pounds, in particular by posing as for MI5 spy, the British secret service. He was released in 2009 after an appeals court overturned the kidnapping conviction. Nicknamed “the puppeteer“, a Netflix documentary has been dedicated to him since the beginning of the year.
