Generating Images in ChatGPT Becomes Free, Here’s How

A limit of two images per day

With this announcement, OpenAI continues to improve the quality of its free offering, which is gradually widening the gap with the paid subscription.

ChatGPT Free now has access to the same language models as ChatGPT Plus, image and document analysis, the same voice mode, and image generation. The only limitation is that it can only generate two photos per day with Dall-E, which may not be enough for people who want to test many different versions of the same idea. This is more of a discovery than a real integration.

To generate an image for free, simply ask ChatGPT something like “Generates an image of a person running under the Eiffel Tower with a gold medal around their neck, in a realistic way”. The deployment of the new feature is still in progress, but this query should work soon. Another option to use Dall-E 3 without paying is to use the Bing Image Creator generator (Microsoft) which also uses the OpenAI distribution model. The only difference is that it is free (Microsoft owns 49% of OpenAI).

By the end of the year, Apple and OpenAI will natively integrate ChatGPT into iPhones, iPads, and Macs, allowing it to answer questions and generate content. Windows devices already have a free integration of Copilot (based on GPT-4), while Android prefers Google Gemini. The free integration of generative AI into these popular products may explain why OpenAI is trying to deprioritize its paid subscription.

By the end of the year, OpenAI is expected to launch several new features exclusive to its paying customers, such as an ultra-advanced voice assistant.
