Adobe has announced that from November 1, Photoshop’s Generative Fill will no longer be available for free. While it has just arrived in the general public version of the software, it will only be accessible by spending credits, which must be purchased from the firm.
At the start of summer, the fever around artificial intelligence was still in full swing. If ChatGPT obviously had a lot to do with it, another AI was also getting a lot of attention: Firefly. Developed by Adobe, it was mainly through Photoshop’s Generative Fill that the tool caused a sensation. The principle is simple: select a living area, ask the software to fill it with the element of your choice, and it takes care of the rest – what’s more, by offering you several options.
Suffice to say that Generative Fill has fascinated a good number of Internet users (in addition to giving graphic designers around the world a cold sweat). A nice achievement considering that the feature was until recently only available through the beta version of Photoshop. Finally, via the September update, the latter made its arrival to the general public. Unfortunately, Adobe just spoiled the party.

If you were planning to use Generative Fill “for free” – at least, included in your subscription to the suite – we have bad news for you: Adobe has understood that its tool has reached a certain level of popularity and intends to make a profit from it all. . On its site, the firm announces that as of November 1, using Generative will cost you 1 credit.
If you have a subscription to the entire Creative Cloud suite, you will automatically receive 1000 credits on your account each month, against 500 credits if you preferred a single subscription to Photoshop. Note that these credits cannot be accumulated and will therefore be wasted the following month if not used. In the event that you run out of credit, you can buy them back in batches of 100 for $4.99/month. Adobe has not yet provided the price in euros, but we imagine it will be similar.
