Genève Aéroport expects 187,000 passengers over the Easter weekend

Geneva (awp/ats) – Air travel is resuming. Genève Aéroport expects to see around 187,000 passengers pass through during the four days of the Easter weekend. This number is almost 85% of the level of Easter 2019, before the pandemic. Zurich airport expects around 70,000 passengers per day.

“People want to travel again, to see their family or friends. The recovery had started in the autumn holidays,” said Ignace Jeannerat, spokesperson for Genève Aéroport, on Friday interviewed by Keystone-ATS. The airport platform expects 46,000 passengers on Friday, nearly 50,000 on Saturday, more than 50,000 on Sunday and 41,000 on Monday.

In recent times, the most popular destinations are London, Lisbon, Porto, Barcelona and Madrid, according to the spokesperson. Flights with mostly British skiers are still expected.

Given the crowds and the health situation in some countries, Genève Aéroport advises passengers to come three hours in advance. Travelers should check the entry requirements for the country of destination. “We also recommend having a mask in your pocket. If it is no longer required at Genève Aéroport, some flights and companies require it”, underlined Mr. Jeannerat.

70% of normal attendance in Zurich ___

Zurich airport expects around 70,000 passengers a day. This corresponds to about 70% of the number of passengers before the pandemic, said spokeswoman Jasmin Bodmer, interviewed by Keystone-ATS. By way of comparison, the airport welcomed an average of 13,200 people per day at Easter a year ago,

According to Bodmer, city trips to London or Amsterdam, but also flights to Palma de Mallorca or Dublin are particularly popular. A total of sixty airlines serve around 190 destinations these days.
