Hollywood star George Clooney (59, "Ocean's Eleven") and his wife Amal (42) have been married for a little over six years. If it continues like this, the notorious and darned seventh year shouldn't have any problems in store for the two – even if some papers in the past have repeatedly speculated about a possible impending separation. At least the couple raves about each other in public as if they're still freshly in love.
Clooney recently stated in a conversation with the men's magazine "GQ" that his whole being had changed when he met Amal. "I thought that I would never get married. That I would never have children," explains the actor, who was married to his colleague Talia Balsam (61) between 1989 and 1993 and in the years that followed with stories from his bachelor life appeared in the gossip columns.
His life was empty
Although he thought that he would lead a full life after meeting Amal, this changed suddenly. "There was actually a huge void," he thought. Now he knows what it is like when "another person's life is so infinitely more important than my own". And finally there are the children too. Together with Amal, the 59-year-old has little son Alexander (born 2017) and his twin sister Ella.
Clooney's wife, a human rights attorney, was recently recognized for her commitment – with the Gwen Ifill Press Freedom Award. The laudator, acting megastar Meryl Streep (71, "The Devil Wears Prada"), described Amal Clooney, among other things, as a woman "who exemplifies the tireless fight for freedom of the press and justice". In a subsequent speech, the lawyer thanked Streep and also addressed her relationship with her husband.
She could never hope to win as many prizes as Streep, but they had "something special in common" because the actress and the lawyer were both "married to my husband". In the animated film "The Fantastic Mr. Fox", George Clooney and Meryl Streep gave a Fox couple their voices.
The great love
"I met George when I was 35 years old and had already resigned myself to being an old maid," said Amal in July 2018. Early on in their relationship, she realized that she "would never be with anyone else to be "wanted. She couldn't sleep properly if he wasn't around – and that hasn't changed five years later. With the actor she found "the great love" that she had always hoped would exist. For the lawyer, it is the greatest joy in her life to see her husband with their children.
