George R. R. Martin: New "Game of Thrones" book to be published in 2021

The corona lockdown shows its good sides: George R. R. Martin is making good progress with the next volume of "The Song of Ice and Fire".

George RR Martin (71) has apparently known how to use the corona lockdown so far: The work on the last two novels of his series "The Song of Fire and Ice", on which the already completed HBO series "Game of Thrones" is based are going well. The author let his fans know in a post on his blog. He hopes that work on "Winds Of Winter", the sixth part of the saga, will be completed in 2021.

"The forced isolation helped me write. I spend a few hours every day writing for 'Winds Of Winter' and I'm making steady progress," said the 71-year-old. However, the book was far from finished: "It will be a huge book and I still have a long way to go." Still, he hopes that the book will be published in 2021.

It is no longer as fast as it used to be

Nevertheless, he wished the stories would go faster: "Back in 1999, when I was deeply involved in the work on 'Sword Storm', I wrote an average of 150 pages per month. I'm afraid I will never reach that speed again, "recalls the author. In retrospect, he no longer knows how he succeeded at that time. "Sword Storm" is the third volume of the fantasy saga "The Song of Ice and Fire" and was released in 2000.
