To Following the death at the hands of the police of Mahsa Amini arrested for not respecting the obligations on the wearing of the veil, the Iranian women revolted with incredible courage and were joined in the streets by all Iranians – and they are the majority – who are fed up with an authoritarian, incompetent and corrupt regime. The 1979 Revolution was driven by the hope of getting rid of a monarchy that made the country a pawn of the United States. The mullahs who then took power behind Khomeini were able to play on the nationalism of the population for a time, especially since the country was invaded shortly after by Iraq and the aggressor had to be driven back during a long and bloody war.
