Gerard Butler nearly killed his partner on the set of PS I Love You

Gerard Butler steps back in time and tells how he ‘almost killed’ Hilary Swank during an accident on the set of their cult movie, ‘PS I Love You’.

As Variety reports, Drew Barrymore Show guest Gerard Butler has returned to the time he slashed the face of his playmate, Hilary Swank, with… suspender clips! PS I Love You, directed by Richard LaGravenese and based on the 2004 novel of the same name, stars the latter as a widow who receives letters from her late husband (Gerard Butler) written before his death that ‘encourage you to move on and go on an adventure. Gerard Butler then said that a scene from the film “almost killed” the actress.

See the scene where I’m dancing and wearing suspenders? I shot this scene for a day and a half and had to dance like a fool with the suspenders. At one point the clip, which was an alligator clip, got stuck in the TV as I crawled towards [Hilary], and she’s right in front of me, laughing hysterically. The cameramen had these plastic visors to protect themselves from [cette pince] crocodile because I had to rattle it, and it had to [voler] beyond my face. I crawl to the bed, it gets stuck, it gets free, flies over my head, hits her in the head, slashes her head.

The actor continues:I cut it. You could even see the teeth of the [clip crocodile]. She had to be taken to hospital. I’m just sitting there in my boxers, with my boots and a pair of socks, and I just started crying.

The scene in question can be found below:

Hilary Swank obviously recovered from the accident and the filming then continued. PS I Love You thus saw the light of day in December 2007 and met with great success at the box office, bringing in $156 million worldwide against a production budget of $30 million.

But Gerard Butler does not only hurt others: he himself was his own victim. Indeed, the actor recently told Seth Meyers how he unknowingly burned himself on the set of his latest action movie, Mayday.

No matter what I do, I manage to hurt myself. I put my hand between those two wheels, somehow pretending that I know what I’m doing. Every time I take my hands out, they’re covered in blood and green liquid, aren’t they? And I’m like, ‘I don’t know what this green liquid is.’ I rub my face and suddenly it’s in my throat. It’s in my mouth. It’s in my nose. It’s in my eyes. It burns my face, and I mean it really burns. Turns out it’s basically phosphoric acid.
