In the mid-1990s, after several relationships and the birth of her two sons, Carole Bouquet fell under the spell of Gérard Depardieu. The two had known each other for many years. Their meeting dates back to 1979 on the set of Cold buffet. And if the 66-year-old actress has long maintained a beautiful friendship with the actor, her outlook has gradually changed. “When we were filming Rive Droite, Rive Gauche or Too Beautiful for You, I saw the actor. At the time separated from researcher Jacques Leibowitch and freshly entered her forties, she started “to look at it differently” : “From a wonderful friend, I looked at him like a man”. For more than ten years, the two cinema monsters experienced a love passion that was as idyllic as it was destructive. Until 2005, when they separated. But there is no question for the two of them erasing this friendship which has become love. “I had the extraordinary chance to meet Gérard and live with him. For nothing in the world I won’t erase a single second time spent with him. I laughed so much, it was so extraordinary at times. Gérard is life itself, that doesn’t mean that everyday life is easy but I’ve had some amazing moments.”
However, their relationship has not always been a smooth river. During an argument in particular, the actress even cut her hair with a knife. “That was where mutilating my feet, my hands », she explained in the columns of Gala.
