Friday August 19, 2022, Gérard Depardieu granted an interview to Madame Figaro. Nearly fourteen years after the death of his son, the actor made a meaningful confidence about the role of justice in his disappearance.
It was fourteen years ago… On October 13, 2008, Gérard Depardieu lost his son, Guillaume. At 37, the actor died of pneumonia contracted during the filming of the film. Icard’s childhood In Romania. In mourning, the movie star is convinced that justice had a role in the disappearance of his son. In an interview given to Madame FigaroGérard Depardieu indeed confided: “I refute justice. Until it’s fair, I don’t want it. She’s political, I never believed in her, and she caused my son’s death.“ In 1988, at the age of 17, Guillaume Depardieu was sentenced to three years in prison for trafficking, use and importation of heroin. He had also been convicted of firing a shot after an altercation, violating the Highway Code, but also driving while intoxicated in 2008.
In September 2017, in an interview with Daily Beast, the actor had already assured that his son’s pneumonia had been caused by the relentlessness of the French judicial system. “They killed my son for two grams of heroin. There was a hateful old judge who wanted to kill my son… She was a judge from Versailles, who really wanted to corner a Depardieu. So she went after my son, but if she could, she would have handcuffed me“, he had assured. More recently, it was in February 2022 that he had mentioned the death of Guillaume Depardieu. For the Sunday newspaperhe said:I do not know mourning: my son Guillaume is in me, as are Jean Carmet, Maurice Pialat, François Truffaut or Barbara. If absence weighs us down, it is because of the void it leaves. I make sure to fill it in, telling myself that Guillaume would have liked such and such a thing.“

In the columns of Parisianin May 2016, the star claimed to have been impressed by his son in the film love your father. Moved, he said: “He was a lively and extremely courageous boy. And it’s always very moving to see people who are not afraid to show their fears. William, unfortunately, did not live long enough. But I had, we had our share of love and problems. But now, every time I think of him or he comes back to me, it’s in an image of peace and harmony.“To conclude, Gérard Depardieu added:”The dead never leave me… What is not normal is that the children die before the father. It’s hard to wear, but the only way to wear it with dignity is for it to resonate within you and make it resonate outside of you.“
