Gérard Lanvin: his overwhelming exchange with Agnès Jaoui on the death of Jean-Pierre Bacri

In January 2021, Gérard Lanvin had a heartbreaking exchange with Agnès Jaoui after the death of Jean-Pierre Bacri. This discussion had great repercussions on his life, as he confides to Télé Star.

For Gérard Lanvin, it’s a special role. In the children of the righteous, broadcast on March 23 on France 2, the actor embodies a discreet and delicate role, that of a country which saved Jewish children during the Second World War. At 71, the actor is at the height of his career, even if he knows it, aging in front of the cameras is not always easy. “We depend on how others view your way of aginghe deciphers in the columns of Télé Star, to be found on newsstands this Monday, March 14. Olivier Nakache and Éric Toledano, for example, I would have loved them to spot me. But that is no longer important today. What matters is to succeed in my exit.”

In our columns, Gérard Lanvin also confided in the death of Jean-Pierre Bacri, who breathed his last in January 2021 at the age of 69. “The death of Jean-Pierre Bacri and that of Wladimir Yordanoff made me realize that I belonged to a generation where you can splash around overnight”he continued, fatalistic, before lifting the veil on the moving discussion he had with Agnès Jaoui after the death of his lifelong partner: “She told me the words of Jean-Pierre: ‘I leave before the trouble, I had a magnificent life'”. At the time, these words had repercussions in the mind of Gérard Lanvin. “There, I said to myself that the goal was to leave with dignity”he explains.

Jean-Pierre Bacri “kicked into touch all the time” on his cancer

For months, Jean-Pierre Bacri had decided to hide his illness from most of his relatives. “He didn’t want to tell almost anyone,” explained Valérie Benaïm, who co-wrote the book Le bougon gentilhomme before adding: “That is to say that Agnès (Jaoui, editor’s note) was aware, obviously, as well as an extremely close circle. He did not have 36 friends, but 4-5 people, and even with them, he waited the last minute”. Diminished by his cancer, the actor preferred to silence his ills. “Even when he went to the hospital, he said: ‘I’m going to do something for two or three days, but it’s nothing, I’ll call you back when I get out’, she confided. He kicked into touch all the time and had that elegance of not putting a burden on the shoulders of others.
