From July 1st, cinemas all over Germany want to reopen, according to HDF Kino. However, an edition should in no way be allowed to endure.

Due to the corona pandemic, cinemas in Germany have been forced to shut down for months. However, that should change in about a month, according to a press release from the Main Association of German Film Theaters (HDF Kino). It says: “All five cinema and distribution associations have spoken out in favor of (…) aiming for a reopening on July 1st.” This should happen nationwide and “independently of the patchwork” on different requirements of the respective federal states.

The announcement is accompanied by an appeal to the individual federal states to “enable this project and to communicate it promptly.” The targeted date is therefore based on the “vaccination progress” to be observed and the “falling number of infections”. The urgency of a uniform date for the whole of Germany is particularly emphasized: “Only if all cinemas nationwide have the chance to open together promptly can distributors actually start new films and thus restore the economic basis of the film theaters.” However, every cinema should be allowed to open earlier “in accordance with local requirements, of course”.

This requirement has to give way

So that German cinemas can finally generate profitable income again and viewers can also feel comfortable in the hall, there should be “no mask requirement at the place”. HDF Kino sees it as guaranteed that “the industry’s tried and tested hygiene and safety concepts” make this possible.

The neighboring countries Austria and France are mentioned as examples of praise. In both countries the cinemas were reopened nationwide with “several weeks’ advance notice”. In France, the rule applies that the halls there can be used to 100 percent from June 30th.
