On Saturday night, a German diplomat was arrested in Rio de Janeiro in connection with the death of his Belgian husband. This was announced by the Brazilian police.

The diplomat himself says that his husband died on Friday. After a sudden illness, he fell out of their shared apartment in the Ipanema district. However, the police arrested Hahn on suspicion of murder after forensics found traces of blood in the apartment. The autopsy of the body also showed multiple wounds.

“The circumstances of the death are clear. From the marks of injuries on various parts of the body, we realized that it was a violent death,” investigator Camila Lourenco told reporters. Television images showed the police taking the diplomat away in an official car.

The German consulate in Rio did not immediately respond to a request for comment. According to the Brazilian news portal G1, the couple had been together for 23 years.
