ESC fans can vote again on the artists who are to represent Germany in 2022. The application phase has started.

When the Eurovision Song Contest rises in Italy in May 2022, Germany will be there again. It has not yet been decided which act should appear. Artists who would like to represent Germany, can apply from now on.

The radio pop waves of the ARD, including Bayern 3, MDR Jump, NDR 2 and SWR3, will be an important part of the selection process for the first time, as the NDR announced. Five radio experts will form an expert jury together with Alexandra Wolfslast. The head of the German ESC delegation and the other jury members will select the top five from all applicants and from artists who have submitted a title and addressed by the pop waves.

As part of an ESC day of ARD, which is expected to take place in March, these five candidates will then face the audience. While juries had recently decided on the final artist, radio listeners, online users and television viewers will this time again vote for their favorite in the third programs, who will represent Germany with his “Lied für Turin”.

Start an ESC fire

in the “ESC Update” podcast explains Wolfslastthat she currently cannot say what exactly the TV show will look like on ESC day. “We are still in the middle of planning,” she says. “The fact is that we can hopefully introduce a lot of great artists with their songs – and that Germany can vote.”

According to Wolfslast, it should be “a national task” to find a contribution to the Eurovision Song Contest. “I hope that through the participation of the radios, the television stations and, of course, the fact that people all over Germany can vote, we can rekindle our own ESC fire in our country.”

Jendrik Sigwart (27) represented Germany at the ESC in Rotterdam this year and was second to last. The winner was the Italian rock band Maneskin with their song “Zitti e buoni”.

The final of the upcoming ESC is planned for May 14, 2022.
