German lost his footing – climbing tour in Walgau ended with a broken leg

Late on Saturday afternoon, a 60-year-old German had an accident while climbing in Nüziders. The man had to be rescued by the mountain rescue team and taken to the Bludenz LKH for further treatment.

Together with his son, the 60-year-old set out on Saturday to conquer the “Hanging Stone” in the municipality of Nüziders. Both were well equipped, and the difficulty level of the route (4-) did not overwhelm the abilities of the father-son duo. The accident happened on the last pitch of all places: the Filius had already reached his destination and was securing his father. Probably due to inattention, he suddenly lost his footing and fell into the rope. Due to the force of the “full stop,” a 60-year-old broke his leg. Fortunately, the injured man was able to make an emergency call on his own. He received initial care from his son until the mountain rescuers arrived. The mountain rescue teams finally freed the German from his predicament and took him straight to the Bludenz State Hospital.
