ARD, ZDF and RTL show the international matches until 2028. RTL has secured the largest share.

ARD, ZDF and RTL will share the rights to national football team games until 2028. Reported about it among other things “picture”. The games of the German team remain freely available to watch on television. At the end of 2021, UEFA had re-advertised the national team’s games.

RTL has secured the rights to half of all international matches until 2028. The broadcaster reports this in a press release. It is the most extensive international package in RTL history. The package includes the games from the Nations League as well as the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup and the 2028 European Championship. There are also various friendlies.

Games at world and European championships are not part of the package

However, the final round matches of the major tournaments themselves are not part of the deal. At the upcoming World Cup in Qatar, only ARD and ZDF are allowed to broadcast individual games. MagentaTV holds the rights to all games of the 2022 World Cup.

The phase of international matches according to the rules of the new rights package begins in June this year with the Nations League games against European champions Italy and Hungary. RTL will broadcast the games on June 4th and 11th on free TV and in the stream on RTL+.
