Germany as a risk area: which countries Germans are not allowed to enter

In the corona pandemic, restrictions apply to travelers from Germany in many places. Due to the increasing number of infections, some countries also declared Germany a risk area. An overview without claiming to be complete:

Europe

In FINLAND, entry for people from Germany has been restricted again since Monday. Leisure travel is not allowed at all – only return, transit on the way to other countries, business trips and trips with other valid reasons. Those who enter the country with good reason must be in quarantine for 14 days. This can be shortened with two voluntary corona tests.

Germany also has a warning in NORWAY. Anyone who comes has to be in quarantine for ten days. The Foreign Ministry advises against unnecessary trips to the Federal Republic.

In ICELAND there are no restrictions for Germany, but travelers generally have to do 14 days in quarantine or two tests.

In IRELAND, Germany has not been on the "Green List" since Monday. This means that travelers from Germany – and most other countries – are advised to severely restrict their movements in the country 14 days after entering the country.

For BELGIUM, Germany is not a risk area. However, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs recommends corona test and quarantine for people entering from some regions – including Cologne, Düsseldorf, Hanover and large parts of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg.

In SLOVENIA, Germany is classified as a medium-level risk area. Because Germany is an EU member state, there are neither entry restrictions nor quarantine requirements.

For HUNGARY, the rest of the world is a risk area. Foreigners with a place of residence in Hungary are exempt from the border block. You have to be in quarantine for ten days when entering the country. Exceptions also apply to business people.

In BOSNIA-HERZEGOVINA, travelers from Germany must present a test that is not older than 48 hours. This does not apply to transit.

USA

The State Department continues to urge US citizens to reconsider travel plans to Germany. On a warning scale from one to four, Germany is at level three. The entire Schengen area is considered a risk area. Non-Americans who have been there in the past 14 days are banned from entering the country. Nobody knows when it will be lifted – especially since the EU is also keeping its borders tight for travelers from the USA.

Latin America

Most of the countries in LATIN AMERICA do not keep lists of risk areas but treat all foreigners equally. There have been no entry restrictions in MEXICO since the beginning of the pandemic. BRAZIL has also reopened its airports to tourists. In ARGENTINA everyone has to be in a 14-day quarantine – regardless of where they come from. CHILE has sealed itself off. Only Chileans and foreigners with a residence permit are allowed in.

Africa

In many AFRICA countries you can re-enter from anywhere, including Germany. Many countries require a negative test, for example ETHIOPIA or KENYA. Entry into NIGERIA is also possible again – but airlines like Lufthansa are not allowed to land in response to a ban on flights from Nigeria. SOUTH AFRICA will again allow international travel from Thursday.

Arab space

Many countries in the ARABIC AREA treat all foreigners equally, instead of keeping lists of risk areas. For example, all passengers have to present a negative test to enter EGYPT. The same applies to LEBANON. In countries such as JORDAN and TUNISIA, home quarantine for several days is mandatory even if the test is negative.

There are some exceptions for package travelers. In Tunisia, for example, they do not have to submit a test. This also applies to direct flights to Egyptian beach towns such as Sharm el Sheikh and Hurghada.

However, some states in the Middle East and North Africa also keep country lists. TUNISIA lists Germany in an orange category. MOROCCO has closed its borders and banned international passenger flights until October 10th.

Asia Pacific region

Most countries' borders are still tight for foreigners. AUSTRALIA and NEW ZEALAND basically regard all other countries as risk areas. Foreigners are only allowed to enter THAILAND with a special permit. Everyone has to be in state quarantine.

East asia

CHINA does not specifically see Germany as a risk area. Rather, equally strict restrictions apply to travelers from all countries. Normal visas are not issued. Special permits are usually required. Travelers also have to be in quarantine in hotels or other facilities for 14 days. There are also few flights. Even the Chinese are struggling to return.

For JAPAN, all of Europe is a risk area. On Thursday the borders will be reopened for foreigners, but only for holders of a residence permit of more than three months. In addition, they must have tested negative, be in quarantine for two weeks and are not allowed to use public transport. There is still a general entry ban for tourists.

Entry into SOUTH KOREA is no longer possible for Germans without a visa. Basically, everyone who comes has to be in quarantine for two weeks. Exceptions: People who have to go to the country for "important business, humanitarian or academic reasons". However, they need a certificate from the respective South Korean embassy.
