FRANKFURT (Reuters) – Members of the Frankfurt public prosecutor’s office, federal police and other officials were conducting searches Friday morning at the premises of Deutsche Bank in Frankfurt, where its headquarters are located, the prosecutor’s office said on Friday. city.

The first German bank announced that this search concerned questionable transactions likely to be money laundering that it had itself reported and specified that it was cooperating fully with the authorities.

The prosecution merely specified that it had a warrant, without detailing the reasons for this search, and added that representatives of BaFin, the German financial market supervisory authority, also participated.

BaFin and the federal police declined to comment.

Germany’s leading bank, whose image has been tarnished by a series of costly regulatory failures, is trying to recover and restore its image under the leadership of Christian Sewing, appointed chairman of the executive board in 2018.

It published Wednesday a first quarter profit above expectations, up 17% to 1.06 billion euros.

On the stock market, the title Deutsche Bank is down nearly 2% at midday, while it rose about 2% before this announcement.
