Germany: job market growth is running out of steam


(CercleFinance.com) – The growth of the German job market ran out of steam in May, according to official figures published on Wednesday which testify to the bout of weakness currently facing Europe’s largest economy.

The number of unemployed fell by 42,000 from one month to the next to settle at 2,544,000 at the end of the month which is ending, a less marked decline than usual for a month of May , emphasizes the Federal Office of Labor (Bundesagentur für Arbeit).

Compared to May of last year, the number of unemployed is up by 284,000.

The unemployment rate fell by 0.2 percentage point to 5.5% in May.
