BERLIN (Reuters) – The German government has ordered 40,000 doses of the smallpox vaccine Imvanex from the Bavarian Nordic laboratory to be ready to launch a vaccination campaign if cases of monkeypox increase, the Minister of Health announced on Tuesday. Health, Karl Lauterbach.
He added that he was counting for the moment on the effectiveness of the 21-day isolation period provided for infected people in order to prevent an extension of the epidemic.
Five cases of monkeypox have been identified so far in Germany, all in men, said Lothar Wieler, director of the Robert Koch Institute for Infectious Diseases, at a press conference.
