The domestic intelligence service announced on Friday in Dresden that there are “now sufficiently certain findings” that the self-proclaimed “Patriotic Europeans against the Islamization of the West” has developed into an unconstitutional movement over the years. The movement originated in the east German city of Dresden at the end of 2014.
In addition to the Pegida-Förderverein, all persons and activities from which extremist endeavors originate are included in the observation.
Since Pegida regularly offers known right-wing extremists a public agitation platform for anti-constitutional positions and ideologies, “this movement acts like a“ hinge ”between extremists and non-extremists,” said Constitutional Protection President Dirk-Martin Christian.
At the same time, an ever increasing “delimitation” between democratic, radical and extremist positions in the social discourse in Saxony is promoted. “The resulting, ever deeper penetration of right-wing extremist ideas into the center of society is in the long run a serious threat to our free and democratic social order.”
