BERLIN (Reuters) – Germany on Friday ratified Finland and Sweden’s membership of NATO, three days after the two countries signed their accession protocol.

The text integrating the two Nordic countries into the Atlantic Alliance has been approved by both chambers of Parliament.

“This creates more security – for all NATO members and for Europe,” German Chancellor Olaf Scholz commented on Twitter.

The accession of Finland and Sweden must be ratified by the thirty member countries of NATO before entering into force.
