BERLIN (Reuters) – The websites of seven German airports were hit by a suspected cyberattack on Thursday, the airport association ADV said, a day after a major IT outage at Lufthansa left thousands of passengers stranded outside the airport. Frankfurt Airport.

Among the airports affected are those of Dusseldorf, Nuremberg and Dortmund, but the sites of the largest German airports, in Frankfurt, Munich and Berlin, were operating normally.

“Once again, airports have fallen victim to large-scale DDoS attacks,” Ralph Beisel, chief executive of ADV, said in a statement, adding that the websites of seven airports were temporarily down.

A DDoS (denial of service) attack consists of directing large volumes of Internet traffic to targeted servers to take them offline.

“According to the information we have so far, the other systems are not affected,” said Ralph Beisel, adding that it remains to be seen to what extent the situation will spread to other airports.
