(Reuters) – German retail sales surged in September from August, data released by the Federal Statistics Office showed on Monday.
Retail sales rose 0.9% month on month, after falling 1.4% (revised) in August, Destatis said.
Analysts polled by Reuters on average had forecast a fall of 0.3% in seasonally adjusted data in September.
Over one year, retail sales in Europe’s largest economy fell by 0.9%, after a decline of 1.5% (revised figure) in August and compared with the 4.9% decline expected by the analysts.
