Year after year, the viewers are particularly enthusiastic about a “Germany’s next top model” episode: In the so-called makeover episode, the young models often undergo blatant type changes under the supervision of Heidi Klum (49). In week five of the 18th season (March 16, 8:15 p.m., ProSieben) it’s that time again and twelve candidates are given a new look by professional stylists. The makeover also has a special premiere for Klum this time.

First, the top model candidates, like their predecessors, enter the large makeover room with mixed feelings. Anya (19) is happy and is “trembling all the time because I’m just so up for it,” she describes according to the follow-up announcement. She would like “something unnatural”, “like pink or purple or blue”. Sarah (20), on the other hand, doesn’t want to have to say goodbye to her long brown hair: “I started the day with a very uncomfortable feeling, I also had nightmares that my hair was being cut off.”

Selma (18) is very dissatisfied at the moment and would therefore be “in the mood for a change”. But: “I hope I’m not the one with the biggest change.” Cassie (23) reveals in the “GNTM” interviewthat she “definitely wants to keep my red hair” and for Somajia (21) the worst thing would be a bald head: “It took me a long time to accept my hair the way it is now. Today I love my hair and I love me the way I am!” Elsa (18) trusts in the expertise of Heidi Klum and her team: “Heidi knows stylists. (…) And I think it will look good if they do it.”

“Of course we are only surrounded by the best specialists today,” emphasizes Heidi Klum. “All the models are in super good hands. I entrust my hair to these people myself.” In order to emphasize this, for the first time in the history of “GNTM” the head of the model takes a seat on the hairdresser’s chair and, to the great surprise of the models, is restyled by the stylist team.

The emotional roller coaster ride usually attracts many viewers in front of the television. Last year, the makeover episode, which aired on March 10, 2022, grabbed a 26.5 percent market share in the 14- to 49-year-old target group, making it the most successful makeover episode ever. According to ProSieben, the issue was also the strongest regular episode in 14 years. Heidi Klum has been with her model casting show “Germany’s next top model” since 2006.
