In the new episode "GNTM", the girls have to face the press and improvise in brightly colored eighties outfits.

The seventh episode of "Germany's Next Top Model" (March 18, 8:15 pm on ProSieben) is intended to prepare the girls for life in public. For this, the top model candidates receive press training: "Taff" presenter and journalist Christian Düren (30) wants to prepare them for the shark tank show business.

Especially the girls who are successful on social media panic quickly: "They'll find so much shit on me!" Fears Alysha (19). The "shit" are basically harmless dance videos, but that's when the problem starts: When asked whether she was aware that many would only watch the videos because of their bodies, she lost her self-confidence and tears flowed: "That is a topic that makes it vulnerable. And you noticed that too much, "says Düren.

For Romina (21), the question about her boyfriend, an organizer, is fatal. The fact that the well-known name could have brought her a few more followers throws her off the mark. "That hurt," said Romina afterwards. Others, such as Dasha (20) or Alex (23), who "have to" justify themselves for revealing photos, remain sovereign. Alex: "In the end it wasn't Christian Düren who stirred up one, but the question. And that can also come from other people."

"Nobody wants to work with someone like that"

Düren doesn't even have to look at Linda's (20) social media channels. One question about the situation in the loft is enough and Linda starts right away: Liliana (21) is loud, unhygienic and disrespectful and she would not get along well with Soulin (20), she would lie. A no-go for Düren: "Nobody wants to work with someone like that." When asked to think about her attitude, Linda answers snippily: "I've always been like this and I will always stay that way" and leaves the room more or less quickly. After all, Düren has to admit: Linda is anything but boring.

But the training is not over yet. In a mini press conference in front of two journalists and one journalist, the girls are then cross-examined again. Many can directly implement Düren's tips. When it is Linda's turn, she is conveniently asked the same question again – but, as expected, she has not really learned anything. Who is she not getting along with? "Soulin." Why? "So it started …" Linda recounts how the first argument came about between the two of them, while Soulin is sitting right next to her. "From my point of view, it was about children's stuff … There was a lack of professionalism," judged one of the journalists.

80s commercial and emoji walk

The next day it's back in front of a camera. The topic this time: A commercial in the look of the 80s. The girls have to prove their talent for improvisation and advertise products such as a boom box or detergent in their own words – while the setting behind them changes constantly. Some girls do it really well. After Romina's idea, Heidi Klum (47) wants to buy the exercise tape directly. Alex shows creativity and Liliana (21) can also convince Heidi for a change: "Usually she is already overwhelmed by many of our tasks. (…) I'm totally flabbergasted." But many also fail at the task: Chanel (20) tends to put Heidi to sleep with her imagination, Ashley (22) doesn't seem very personable and Mareike (25) just doesn't want to think of anything. Above all, she had hoped for more from the topic: "Shit again, although that should have been mine."

Finally, the weekly walk: This time the clothes consist of giant inflatable emojis by Jack Irving. For some, these seem to have been tailored a bit to the personality. Linda, for example, gets a kind of coronavirus with devil's heads and feels seen: "It was clear! Well people, I'm the devil. Does anyone want to mess with me?" As a special challenge, the girls should take a selfie at the end of the catwalk using the self-timer. But there is also coaching from influencer couple Stefanie Giesinger (24) and Marcus Butler (29).

The two then sit next to Heidi Klum at the end of the catwalk and evaluate the girls' walk. Giesinger, once on "Germany's next top model" himself, knows the challenges of the show and diligently distributes compliments to the models who have to try to get across the catwalk as gracefully as possible in oversized plastic emojis such as cherries, chillies, kissable lips or flames.

Injury, allergy, hospital …

The many health problems associated with this episode are also noticeable: Jasemine (21) has to go to the hospital for a few days due to an autoimmune disease. Romina bends over in a shoe that is too big and hobbles after her walk without high heels to the decision. Romy (19) cannot have make-up due to an allergy and Mareike is not allowed to wear a wig because of a head injury. Which leads us to the question: What actually happens in the model often when the cameras are off?

But let's get to the "survivors": In the subsequent evaluation, Ana (20), Alex and Dascha are chosen as the winners of the week. There is not much praise for favorite Soulin this time – she and Linda have to justify themselves to Heidi for their press conference, in which they "pissed off", as a fictional headline announced. But both vow to get better and stay on the show. In the end, it wasn't enough for Chanel (20). "I was hoping that I would get through. But I'm very proud of myself that I did it, that I dared."
