Germany’s next top model: Two farewells in the semifinals

In the semifinals, the girls shoot the cover for their possible victory and try to convince with big speeches.

Semi-final time at “Germany’s next top model” (May 20th, 8:15 pm, ProSieben): Soulin (20), Dascha (20), Romina (21), Ashley (22), Yasmin (19) and Alex (23) are now still in the running for the title. First of all, the supreme discipline of the modeling school has to be mastered: The shoot for the cover of “Harper’s Bazaar”, which will adorn the winner.

In front of Marcin Tyszka’s (45) camera, the girls are supposed to pose against the backdrop of a Spartan summer meadow. Exactly Dascha’s thing: “It smells like village. I like that. […] When I was four years old, I was able to milk a cow. “But it won’t be that easy for her. Heidi Klum (47) and editor-in-chief Kerstin Schneider are not particularly impressed by Dascha’s performance:” Yes, it is beautiful, but no one is at home today, “complains Heidi. But Dasha does not let himself be unsettled, persuades the photographer to move the lamps and shoot from above while she is lying down.” I think we should have listened to Dasha from the start. ” , said Klum when she saw the result.

While the pictures with Romina, Alex, Soulin and Ashley are in record time, Yasmin is also struggling a bit. She has to face the camera in a brightly colored patchwork dress with puff sleeves, an unfavorable cut and clogs – an outfit that she would voluntarily never wear. “That’s not really my thing,” laughs Heidi Klum. You can see from the shoot that Yasmin is not feeling well: “It’s so sad, so bleak, so bland,” Klum tells her model.

Short break from tears

At home in the Modelloft, a portion of extra motivation awaits the six semi-finalists after the important shoot: Letters, gifts, congratulations and photos of families, friends and partners ensure that tears run out of hand. But then it goes back to work quickly. Heidi explains to the girls via video message that after their last walk before the final they also have to give a speech about their trip to “Germany’s next top model”.

Before her big appearance, top model Alessandra Ambrosio (40) surprises the girls in the locker room and tries to help them with their speeches. She gives Soulin tips on how to overcome her perfectionism, Alex how she learns to show her insecurities, and explains to Romina that she, too, has often been on the verge of giving up. “That is exactly what we needed at that moment,” said Dasha gratefully.

The last walk before the final

This time, the elimination walk leads the models over steps to a triangular catwalk, wearing challenging creations by Iris van Herpen (36). The guest jurors of all past episodes, who sit on screens around the catwalk, create additional uncertainty. And of course the awareness that it will soon all be over. Yasmin: “We have now spent 16 weeks together, slept together and overcome hurdles … One last time, that depresses the mood a bit.”

Ashley’s natural elegance, Romina’s faint smile, Yasmin’s self-confident walk, Alex’s goose bumps walk – the catwalk performance is now popular with all girls. Nearly. With Dasha, the dress gets caught in her heel right at the beginning. “She can do it to the end, Dasha, go through with it!” Heidi fevered. Dasha pulls it through, even if the dress is broken afterwards. This time there is some criticism for Soulin’s extravagant running style – from top model Ambrosio, who feels the extreme hip swing of Heidi’s favorite as “a little too aggressive”.

Soul striptease in front of the jury

There were enough naked walks and shootings this season – now the girls have to perform a soul striptease in front of the jury. Soulin reports that she had pushed the rejection to its limits in interpersonal situations. Alex shares how she learned to jump over her own shadow and give up control. Ashley explains that in the meantime she had wondered if a model had to be an extrovert. Romina tells how she overcame self-doubt after many setbacks at the auditions. Yasmin explains how she worked hard to advance her development. And after Dasha’s speech, in which she explains how she remained positive despite all the defeats, Ambrosio enthusiastically chanted: “Dasha for President!”

Yasmin, who remained strangely inconspicuous up to the last episode, must not be so surprising. She takes it calmly: “To be sixth is the greatest thing I could have achieved for me.” Heidi will still only be in the final with four models: Ashley, although she made it into the final, decided against it for personal reasons. So the finalists of the 16th season are: Soulin, Dascha, Romina and Alex.
