(Boursier.com) — Getlink announces the acquisition of ChannelPorts Ltd, one of the leaders in the British customs services market. Founded in 1974 and based in Folkestone in the Kent region (United Kingdom), ChannelPorts has 44 employees and achieved a turnover of around £10 million in 2023.
This acquisition is at the heart of transport issues and the need to simplify cross-Channel trade. Getlink thus constitutes a unique service and support offering to facilitate the exchange of goods between Europe and the United Kingdom while fully in line with the Group’s strategy by embodying the Low Carbon – High Simplicity ambition.
ChannelPorts carries out – on behalf of its carrier, logistician or shipper clients – the customs formalities that have become mandatory since the implementation of Brexit. The company relies in particular on a digital platform – CustomsPro – which simplifies data exchange and improves operational productivity.
These services (import, export and transit formalities) will be integrated into Sherpass, the Getlink group’s digital platform which facilitates border crossings for its transport and logistics clients.
Getlink thus consolidates a strong position in the still fragmented customs services market between Europe and the United Kingdom.
In addition to its customs services business, ChannelPorts owns a secure HGV parking and service area – “Stop24” – located on the M20 motorway in Folkestone, less than 10 kilometers from the entrance to the Channel Tunnel. . “Stop 24” completes the range of secure solutions for truck drivers, already offered on the French side by Eurotunnel with Le Truck Village.
