Getlink: signing of decrees against social dumping

(CercleFinance.com) – Getlink welcomes the signing by the Secretary of State for the Sea and Biodiversity of the decrees implementing the law aimed at combating social dumping and strengthening the safety of maritime transport cross-Channel.

This law provides for the principle of a minimum wage for sailors sailing between France and England. It was intended to be supplemented by decrees relating in particular to the criteria for operating the lines concerned and the maximum boarding time.

Adopted by the French Parliament in the summer of 2023, the law aims to restore conditions of fair competition between operators and to combat human exploitation of crews on board ferries flying the free registration flag by establishing a salary minimum and means of monitoring compliance with employment conditions within maritime operators linking France to Great Britain.

‘The entry into force of the law through the signing of the implementing decrees represents a decisive step forward towards the return to conditions of fair competition between the different operators of cross-Channel transport,’ declared Yann Leriche, Managing Director of Getlink.
