A lack of care can quickly lead to bad odors in the washing machine. These tips ensure cleanliness.
Beautiful colors or brilliant white, a well-preserved fit and a fresh scent are the hallmarks of well-cared for laundry. Sometimes, however, insufficient washing results cause frustration in the household. With these five tips you can maintain and protect the endurance runner among household appliances.
1. Leave the door and flap open
Mold is often the reason for unpleasant smells from the washing machine. It forms on seals when they are exposed to moisture and moisture over a long period of time. The best remedy for mold is as simple as it is effective: after each wash, simply leave the detergent compartment flap and the machine door open. Then the rubber seals dry and the mold has no chance.
2. Clean the filter
Mold and contamination are also an issue with built-in filters: frequent use and countless washing cycles can clog the machine filters. In order to eliminate breeding grounds for germs and bacteria, the filters should be removed and cleaned from time to time. However, not without first having studied the operating instructions for the washing machine – then the filter cleaning action works without problems and stress-free.
3. Wash hot
Energy saving programs ensure that the laundry is cleaned quickly. At 30 or 40 degrees it is clean and valuable energy is saved. Nevertheless, a hot wash is necessary from time to time to remove various germs and bacteria inside the washing machine. The uninvited guests are only thoroughly killed at a washing temperature of 90 degrees. Idling is not necessary for this. Simply collect a load of whites.
4. Use of home remedies
Although retailers offer washing machine cleaners, simple household remedies are also sufficient for cleaning the drum, detergent drawer and seal. Lemon juice is particularly effective at removing harmful limescale deposits and bacteria: Mix around five to ten tablespoons of lemon juice with a small amount of water and pour it directly into the empty drum. As a precaution, use the operating instructions to check whether your machine can tolerate empty washing cycles.
Then select a 40-degree program and switch on. Halfway through the process, stop the process and let the citric acid work for about an hour. Then continue the program until the end. Lemon juice also does a great job of cleaning the seals.
5. Cleaning is also successful with dishwasher tablets
Alternatively, dishwasher tabs are suitable for cleaning the washing machine drum. Much like using lemon juice, just put a tab inside the machine and run a 60-degree program.
