The Samsung Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus share several things in common. This is why we are dedicating the same getting started article to them — after having discovered them in preview.
Interesting differences can be noted, both compared to the previous generation, but also between the two smartphones. Time for first impressions.

And poof, flat edges
It’s hard not to draw a parallel with the iPhone when you grab a Galaxy S24 or a Galaxy S24 Plus. Samsung has opted for flat edges on both smartphones and this marks a little Apple je ne sais quoi for the eyes, but also in the hand.
Is this really an inspiration drawn from the hereditary enemy? Is it simply a desire to offer a fashionable design? A bit of both perhaps? Ultimately, the answers to these questions don’t matter. What matters is the intrinsic quality of the product.
On this point, the Samsung Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus seem difficult to fault. I really liked the feel in the hand with carefully worked finishes on the corners to avoid any discomfort in the palm. I always have the fear of being faced with too sharp corners when faced with a flat-edged design. No particular criticism here.
I’m also not saying that I prefer this design to last year’s S23 and S23 Plus. In this, I am fairly neutral. Above all, I can assure you that it was not shoddy work, but we weren’t too worried about that either.
Moreover, the Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus do not shake up the aesthetic codes of the range either. So, at the back, we still find the photo block with the design so dear to Samsung where each camera is visually separated from the others.
New smartphones, new screens
At the front, we are treated to a nice surprise with significantly thinner borders than in the past. Amoled panels therefore offer better immersion which is very attractive. It must also be said that this development allows screens to enlarge without having an impact on the dimensions of the phones.
So count on a diagonal of 6.2 inches for the Galaxy S24 (compared to 6.1 inches on the S23). For the Galaxy S24 Plus, we are on 6.7 inches (compared to 6.6 inches for the S23 Plus). And the good news doesn’t stop there!
All smartphones in this range now benefit from an LTPO screen for a refresh rate varying from 1 to 120 Hz. But be careful, a significant difference appears here between the two models: the definition.
The Galaxy S24 remains on Full HD+ while the Galaxy S24 Plus moves upmarket and goes to QHD+, thus approaching the Galaxy S24 Ultra.
Personally, the difference was not obvious to me. Both screens look really good, we shouldn’t be disappointed in the test.
In addition, count on a maximum brightness of 2600 nits so you never have to squint to distinguish what is displayed on the screen.
No jealousy about artificial intelligence
This year, artificial intelligence is the big star of Samsung’s new smartphones. Galaxy AI functions are at the heart of all attention. In this regard, the South Korean brand does not fall into favoritism. And the options found on the Galaxy S24 Ultra are also available on the Galaxy S24 Plus and Galaxy S24.
We have dedicated a paper dedicated to discovering all these Galaxy AI functions to present them to you in detail. To get an idea of what to expect, below are the functions that excited me the most during my get-to-know-you experience.
The Samsung keyboard is able to rephrase your sentences if you wish to adopt a tone (polite, casual, professional, etc.) that suits you. It works very well.
AI makes it possible to move an object or person in a photo without creating “hole» in the image, because it generates a decor so that the artifice is not seen.
Same story for photos that need to be shifted a little. Normally, you have to crop the image so as not to have the corners.empty“. On the S24/S24+, the AI cleverly fills these spaces so as not to make compromises.
For videos, Galaxy AI knows how to create very convincing slow-motion effects from any recording. Artificial intelligence adds artificially generated images and intersperses them with real images to reach 240 frames per second. It is very impressive.
AI can help you during a call to translate, in real time, what the other person is saying. Each person on the line can speak normally and wait briefly while a synthetic voice repeats what was said in another language for a more or less fluid conversation.
There is also a Galaxy AI function capable of transcribing a conversation you have had into writing, as well as highlighting the key elements to remember in a concise summary. In the same vein, another option allows you to do the same thing from any text.
Also note that if a piece of text or a visual element tickles your curiosity while you scroll in an app, you can circle it with your finger and get detailed explanations in a pop-up window. This option, full of promise, is however powered by Google this time, but in preview on Samsung’s S24 series.
AI is also your ally in video games, since it manages ray tracing effects to make your games more beautiful.
Exynos, the return
Oh rage, oh despair! Unlike the Galaxy S24 Ultra which benefits from a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, the European Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus will be equipped with an Exynos 2400. A short handling obviously does not allow me to give you feedback on the performance of the products ( especially since I dealt with American versions).
So, I prefer to avoid being bad-mouthed and give Samsung the benefit of the doubt. The manufacturer has perhaps worked hard to finally restore its Exynos chips to their credentials that have been too often mistreated in recent years in the face of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon.
Note in passing that the Galaxy S24 Plus takes advantage here to add a new point of differentiation with the classic Galaxy S24. It is equipped with 12 GB of RAM compared to 8 GB for its little brother.
On the battery side, we are also seeing change with increasing capacities. The Galaxy S24 thus benefits from a 4000 mAh battery while the Galaxy S24 Plus goes to 4800 mAh.
No change in the photo with still three cameras on either side (50 Mpx wide-angle sensor associated with an ultra-wide-angle and a 3x telephoto lens).
For the part, Samsung takes inspiration from Google and promises major Android updates and security patches for seven years. Remember that we start here with Android 14 (One UI 6) natively installed.
The basics and the most
The Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus share a lot in common and experience the same aesthetic developments. Note, however, that the Plus model distances itself to settle halfway between the basic version and the Ultra version.
It goes further in terms of screen definition and has a larger RAM. Added to this are other differences that have already existed in the past, such as different storage configurations and charging at 45 W instead of 25 W.
Samsung seems to want to present it as a model in its own right so that the public does not see it simply as a larger S24.
Galaxy S24 and S24 Plus price and release date
The Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus are released in France on January 31, 2024. Four colors are available: black, silver, indigo and cream. Added to this are the three exclusive colors from the Samsung site : blue, green and orange.
