Ghost in the Shell and Co .: These films caused a sensation with scandals

"Scandal that: event that causes offense and sensation." According to this definition of Duden, the following films can truly be called scandal productions. For them, however, it was not the content or the action that "triggered and caused a stir", but rather events and decisions that took place before or during the shoot. They range from forbidden love to sheer hatred to real death.

Affair and love

Many people get to know and love each other at work, including acting. Amor diligently distributed his arrows on the set of "Snow White and the Huntsman". The leading actress Kristen Stewart (30) and director Rupert Sanders (49) came very close – too close. Because the problem: Sanders was married at that time and has two children, Stewart provided half of the "Twilight" dream couple with Robert Pattinson (34). The consequence of the double affair was two failed relationships and stunned fans. In any case, nobody talked about the film.

Meanwhile there was more lasting feelings of love on another set, which led to the creation of the famous suitcase word "Brangelina". "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" met Angelina Jolie (45) and Brad Pitt (56). The marriage to Jennifer Aniston (51) broke up at the same time – a fact that, above all, does not make her fans think well about Jolie to this day. And so "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" entered the collective memory as the film in which Jolie Aniston released the Pitt.

Hate and psychological terror

The exact opposite of love has made the realization of some films a scandalous mammoth task. For example, with Francis Ford Coppolas (81) already unlucky masterpiece "Apocalypse Now". After a misunderstanding, Marlon Brando (1924-2004), who was known for his fierce, inconsiderate temperament, really hated his co-star Dennis Hopper (1936-2010). So much so that he refused to shoot scenes together. Coppola therefore had to record the two arguments individually and later merge them by editing. Hopper and Brando were not to be found together on the set.

Did the egomaniac filmmaker Stanley Kubrick (1928-1999) ruin the career and even mental health of Shelley Duvall (70)? On the set of the joint film "Shining", Duvall was emotionally abused by the director. She is said to have made a scene 127 times before Kubrick was satisfied, the tears and despair of the then 30-year-olds were not played in the end. The psychological terror is said to have caused Duvall's hair loss and was seriously considering quitting acting. Although she didn't, her tender soul was irreparably damaged afterwards.

Ethnic criticism

Scandals can occur not only during the shoot. For some films, the casting caused a stir. So with the story of Moses "Exodus: gods and kings". Many critics were angry with the fact that there were only white protagonists in Egypt. Ethnic controversy also appeared on "The Great Wall" with Matt Damon (49), who, as a western hero, saves the entire Chinese people. So-called "white washing" was also accused of the creators of "Ghost in the Shell". Why did the main character of the manga and anime series have to be represented by Scarlett Johansson (35)? This question determined the coverage of the sci-fi film.

Death and cruelty to animals

When it comes to animal welfare, most people take a clear stance: "This is not possible!" On "Bailey – A friend for life" a video of the shooting was released to the public. It shows how a dog swims in panic around his life in a stream of water and is repeatedly pushed into the water. The producers were then accused of cruelty to animals, and many boycotted the strip.

The most memorable and tragic incident to date, which completely overshadowed a film, happened in March 1993 on the set of "The Crow": leading actor Brandon Lee (1965-1993) was shooting a scene in which his character was shot . But the prop pistol fired debris from a blank cartridge, which seriously injured Lee. Bruce Lee's (1940-1973) son died shortly afterwards at the age of 28 in the hospital.
