Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson are back. The three surviving “Ghostbusters” showed up together on the red carpet.

On November 18, after a long Corona delay, “Ghostbusters: Legacy” will finally start in the cinema, the late third part of the cult series that started in 1984. The new film also works well for the late-born, but the highlight for fans is of course the guest appearance by the original stars Bill Murray (71), Dan Aykroyd (69) and Ernie Hudson (75). At the world premiere of the film in New York on November 15, the three (surviving) original ghost hunters appeared amicably on the red carpet.

“I felt like I was being pulled out of reserve to get back into service and take matters into my own hands. It feels very organic to the way we were built into the film,” says Dan Aykroyd according to the news agency “Reuters” about the comeback.

Ernie Hudson adds: “This film has been a big part of my life for so many years. When we slipped into the overalls (…) I was kind of emotionally moved, I had tears in my eyes”.

A long road to reunion in part 3

There have been plans for a third part after the last “Ghostbusters” in 1989 over the years. But Bill Murray always vetoed a script when he was presented with a script. At one point, Murray seemed satisfied. But then died with Harold Ramis (1944-2014) alias Dr. Egon Spengler the fourth in the ghost hunter group. The plans were put back on hold.

Jason Reitman (44), the son of “Ghostbusters” director Ivan Reitman (75), came around the corner in 2019 with an idea that apparently convinced Murray. Aykroyd, Hudson and Murray were guest stars in the hapless female “Ghostbusters” reboot of 2016, but not in their classic roles as Dr. Peter Venkman (Murray) Dr. Raymond “Ray” Stantz (Aykroyd) and Winston Zeddemore (Hudson).

In the new film, the daughter of Dr. Focus on Spengler. She and her children discover and carry on the ghost hunter’s legacy when a paranormal invasion looms.
