Ghostbusters The Ice Menace: is a sequel planned?

While “Ghostbusters: The Ice Menace” is currently in theaters, what do we know about a potential sequel?

It’s one of the sagas from the 80s favorite among spectators. 40 years after the first Ghostbusters, the ectoplasm hunters are back in the cinema with The Ice Menace in which the new generation (McKenna Grace, Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Logan Kim and Céleste O’Connor) teams up with the original ghostbusters (Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson, Dan Aykroyd and Annie Potts).

Directed by Gil Kenan from a screenplay he co-wrote with Jason Reitman, the son of Ivan Reitman, director and producer of the first parts, the feature film is the direct sequel to The Legacy released in 2021 .

In this fourth part, the Spengler family moves to New York in the famous barracks. When the discovery of an ancient artifact given to Ray by Nadeem Razmaadi (Kumail Nanjiani) unleashes an army of ghosts that spread a threat of ice across the city, the two Ghostbusters teams must join forces to protect their home and save the world of a second ice age.

Now a billionaire, thanks to the good results at the North American box office of Ghostbusters: The Ice Menace, will the saga continue?

Ernie Hudson and Bill Murray

“Jason [Reitman] and I really like Ghostbusters. We love these characters and we would be very happy if the audience was willing to continue having adventures with them. If the public feels that way, then we know what the next stories will be.”

And the cast already seems ready to put on the proton pack again since Carrie Coon – who plays Callie Spengler adds: “I’m absolutely up for coming back! There’s something very exciting about working on these films, especially as a woman. We don’t often get asked to take part in films like this. We’re on the sidelines a lot, so being immersed in the action was a real thrill.”

For his part, McKenna Gracethe interpreter of Phoebe Spengler, declares: “As heavy as those proton packs are, I’d be happy to put it back on. I love those movies. I love being a Ghostbuster. I mean, who are you going to call? Me.”

And one of the potential future stories could center around Mini-Pufts. In the post-credits scene of The Ice Menace we see the little Bibendum Chamallows stealing a semi-trailer carrying “Stay-Puft Marshmallows” at a gas station.

A film about Mini-Pufts?

Gil Kenan revealed to Entertainment Weekly have plans for these little terrors. “Jason and I have a story up our sleeves that continues this narrative thread. There are things to tell. We can’t talk about it yet, but I feel like these little guys still have a lot of stories to tell.”

Will the mini Chamallow Bibendums be at the heart of the fifth installment of the SOSFantômes franchise? Regardless, if a sequel is announced, the cast should be back since the director wants to continue the story of the Spengler family.

“As for what happens next, we are really interested in the characters in this film. We think there is more story to tell. And I really hope that the audience will relate to the adventure what the Spengler family goes through in this movie. And if that’s the case, I really hope we can continue this story.” he tells EW.
