Gigabyte takes the opposite view of graphics cards ever bigger with an RTX 4060 of surprising dimensions.

Amusing. As recently as July 14, we mentioned this RTX 4060 StormX, regretting a little that its compactness did not push Palit to produce a low profile (half-height) version. Barely 24 hours later, we learn that it is finally Gigabyte who tries the thing.

Three fans despite everything

Noticed by our colleagues from VideoCardzthe graphics card does not seem to have a name yet, and it is not even presented on the official website of the brand.

Gigabyte has however decided to market a GeForce RTX 4060 more compact than compact, but in a surprising format. This is a model called half-height (low profile in English). It can therefore fit into the thinnest cases by replacing the bracket shown in the photos (a low profile bracket is generally supplied as a bundle).

However, Gigabyte has decided to deck it out with a rather beefy cooling system, equipped with three fans that are estimated (with a wet finger) to have to measure 60 millimeters in diameter each.

A perfect HTPC solution?

Such a cooling system was probably necessary for a card that should heat up more than the ASRock Arc A380, the latest low-profile, somewhat modern, on the market.

We are indeed talking about a genuine Ada Lovelace AD107 GPU, with its 3,072 stream processors, 8 GB of video memory and 128-bit interface bus. This AD107 GPU therefore completely changes the game with a displayed power that has nothing to do with previous low profile graphics cards and which opens the way to many scenarios.

Our test of the MSI GeForce RTX 4060 confirmed its appetite for video games, but this GPU is also equipped with an AV1 codec hardware encoding and decoding engine. Enough to make this card an ideal HTPC (PC home cinema) solution. Note also that the connectors are perfect for this use: 2x HDMI 2.1 and 2x DisplayPort 1.4.

Clearly, Gigabyte didn’t seek to reduce the card’s functionality by decreasing its size. The cooling system with its heat pipes and multiple fins is also not left out. The only downside: we don’t yet have the (salty?) price of the menu.
