A year after the first announcements, the “revolution” of the PCIe 5.0 SSD is thrilling the big names in solid-state drives.
Only a few days ago, Corsair affirmed its support for AMD and took the opportunity to advertise for the MP700, its first SSD capable of exploiting PCI Express 5.0. Gigabyte quickly followed suit.
Up to 12 GB/s sequential read
The timing is really impeccable for Gigabyte, to the point that one would almost wonder if the Taiwanese was not aware of Corsair’s plans and was simply waiting for the latter’s announcement to draw his new AORUS SSD.
Still, Gigabyte is now taking advantage of the fact that PCI Express 5.0 is making a name for itself to mention its solution called AORUS Gen5 10000 SSD. Better, in addition to a small image of the beast, Gigabyte sent us a CrystalDiskMark capture.
Of course, we’ll have to test all of that for ourselves, but the 1TB version of the AORUS is said to be able to hit 12,453.9MB/s and 10,074.5MB/s in sequential read and write respectively. . Results that Gigabyte believes “ 55% higher than PCIe 4.0 models “.
Do better than Corsair
As we said, this announcement comes only a few days after that of Corsair which communicated around the MP700, an SSD on which the American is still working.
Also exploiting PCIe Express 5.0, the MP700 did not seem able to reach “only” 10 GB / s and 9.5 GB / s respectively in sequential reading and writing.
If the performance displayed by Corsair is down, note that there is no question of final versions of SSDs yet. Note also that a small heatsink is presented with the Corsair solution: it is an even more essential accessory on this generation than on the previous one.
Finally, let’s finish by indicating that neither Corsair nor Gigabyte gives the slightest indication as to the prices of these new SSDs. Gigabyte explains, however, that its AORUS Gen 5 10000 SSD will be available in three variants: 1TB, 2TB or 4TB of capacity.
