Google’s web browser will clearly indicate to its users the memory saved when suspending tabs.

Google Chrome may be the most popular web browser in the world, but the software is often singled out for its performance.

A browser that suffers from resource management issues

Many Chrome users complain of poor memory management, especially for those who need to open many tabs for each browsing session.

After 10, 15 or 20 tabs open in the same window, it is not surprising to see your PC seriously slow down and its battery melt like snow in the sun, the fault of the browser which swallows up RAM over the minutes and elements. loaded in each page.

However, Google teams have sought to optimize the browser’s RAM management, and almost every update brings optimizations or fixes in this direction.

Google will nevertheless go a little further to concretely show users its progress in terms of resource management in a future version.

Google Chrome shows you the memory saved for each inactive tab

On Reddit, a user shared a screenshot that shows a new option integrated into Google Chrome. The latter makes it possible to show exactly the RAM saved by the browser and that available for other tasks carried out by his computer.

A button will soon be accessible in the omnibar, the address bar which also acts as a search field, to display the memory saved when the tab is paused after a period of activity.

However, Google did not invent this feature, which has already been available for some time in Microsoft Edge. The search engine nevertheless goes further by specifically specifying the amount of memory saved, where that of Microsoft only gives a simple unencrypted estimate. Edge does, however, offer a more aggressive resource saver as well as an option to schedule when the browser idles open tabs.

For the moment, this new option is available to users of the Canary version, reserved for developers, and should appear in the next few months in the public version.

But Chrome is not immune to a much less formidable aspect: its collection and marketing of personal data which makes it a serious threat to the privacy of Internet users, especially when the browser is used in conjunction with other Google services. . If respect for confidentiality must, for you, take precedence over the rest, we advise you to turn to Brave or Firefox, more reliable alternatives and satisfactory performance.
